Hickem encourages mom to focus on the following principles to help achieve this regret free goal: Be intentional about understanding your purpose Principal 2: Be intentional about knowing and affirming your c Regret Free Parenting is a book by Catherine Hickem, who is a licensed psychotherapist with more than three decades of experience and founder of International Moms. Be intentional about knowing and affirming your child Principal 3: Be intentional about being a vision keeper Principal 4: Be intentional about developing emotional intelligence Principal 5: Be intentional about maintaining your position Principal 6: Be intentional about addressing your fears Principal 7: Be intentional about being God-dependent Each chapter gives you pointers to help you achieve each principal and much like a self study, there are questions at the end to encourage your thinking.

While I thought this book was a good read and one that got me to think, I didn't find it as helpful as I thought I would. We all know that it is important to be intentional. Be in the moment. Don't waste the precious time you have with your kids. But what I didn't like is that Hickem never addressed the dads. It gave the impression that the moms were the sole parenting figure of the family. I think this was a great disservice to the family unit.

I do enjoy reading her perspective from a Christian standpoint and thought the principal of being God-dependent was the one that spoke the loudest to me. Apr 13, Andrea Estelle rated it it was amazing. She focuses a lot on intentional parenting: Throughout the book, she has insightful snippets that are just truly gems for mothers. Sometimes I do feel like my children push me to the limit but they are also teaching me patience, kindness, and love.

There is nothing worse than a disrespectful child. I already try to do this and I love that she included it in the book. Overall, this book was a great one — a quick read — interesting, funny, and with lots of deeply insightful points into the heart and soul of what it means to be a mom.

I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own! Feb 24, Kristine Coumbe rated it it was amazing Shelves: As a newly engaged woman without children but looking forward to motherhood I was excited to read this book. A sign that it is good and well written book aside from the author's credentials,is that the author's children wrote a forward about their mother and how loved she made them feel. Both son and daughter knew their mom practiced what she teaches others called intentional parenting. The book is so close to the teachings of my church on parenting with practical advice and examples.

Hickem emphasises on knowing or hearing your child, accepting who your child is and to be supportive of their choices. Another major point with intentional parenting is to plan. What you will learn in this book is: I look forward to using Hickem's advice when I become a mother. This will be a book I will read agan and again as well as give as a gift in baby showers!

It appears a book has finally arrived to use as an instruction book on raising a good, god fearing child that will be a confident happy person! Aug 20, Stephanie Ziegler added it Recommended to Stephanie by: I am not a parent nor am I expecting a child any time soon, but I choose this book as a helpful guide for when the time comes. I wish my Mother read this book, it would have helped me with many years in therapy.

One who goes through the daily, surface routines with no thought of the long-term implications of her decisions, the depths of her role as mother, and the gift of each moment she experiences with her children. My Mom said if she had to do it over aga I am not a parent nor am I expecting a child any time soon, but I choose this book as a helpful guide for when the time comes.

My Mom was very controlling, her way or the highway, and this reasoning is passed down from generation to generation. The only way I can stop it is if I realize the dysfunctions and change them for future generations. I do not have a child but I have learned a lot, and I know I will refer back to the book for some reality checks.

Additional Information

I like how the book is not overly religious and she shared examples not only from patients, but from friends and even her own children. Until next time, take life one page at a time! Let's face it, all children have some "circular sessions" and all of them are naturally bisexual. But many children have a really hard time with this, and some parents try to wreck the joys of onanism and lesbianism with their kids, in search of some stupid "Gawd. And for that I am grateful. It is a book about Christian parenting.

While the general ideas in this book are good, it did not give many teaching examples to help mothers. There were several stories about what could go wrong with your children throughout, and a little too much "fluff. There is an entire chapter specifically devoted to surviving the teen years.
