This book is not yet featured on Listopia. This is the story of Arthur and his knights in the 20th Century, it is the first book in a series. Young Adult but a great read.

After a conversation with the writer, I was intrigued. I have been looking for a story with a modern take on the Arthurian legend for a while. I knew beforehand that the story in this book evolved around the idea that Arthur was waiting to return to the land of the living when he was needed most.

Just like the story of Jesus, but I didn't mind, since a lot of Arthurian stories are Christian-based. I also knew that actual existing places in England would feature in the story and that the book w After a conversation with the writer, I was intrigued. I also knew that actual existing places in England would feature in the story and that the book was really aimed at young adults, although the latter was neither confirmed nor denied by the author. Though the book was enjoyable enough and has a good flow which makes it easy to read longer passages although not a real page turner as the author suggested , there were some things wich make me rate this book with a mere 2 stars.

First of all, the language used both by narrator and characters is really old style. Though this is not such a problem for Arthur and his men since they have been sleeping for thousands of years , this did not suit the two teenagers featured in the story. Secondly, it seems like an attempt is being made at creating a Dan Brown sort of mysterie, however the reasonings are often too simple or rash, but always turn out to lead to the correct answer.

Also, the Christian elements are a bit too rediculous. There are apparently 7 evils in the modern day world which Arthur and his men are destined to destroy. Seven being a very Christian number. These evils are drugs, racism, unemployment, violence, pornography and nuclear war. As a non-Christian myself, I cannot see pornography as an evil. Then Arthur and his men go about getting rid of the drug problem in the world. This world merely consist out of the Dorset coast. And the some 3 tedious chapters are dedicated to how Arthur and his men intercept droppings and eventually roll up one drug gang with the help of the police all under the guise of pretending to be an army training in the neighbourhood.

This was all a bit too modern and had nothing to do with the story of Arthur as I expected it to be. There are some tedious situations in each chapter. Such as the explanation of how an auction works. Since I have the second book also, I will continue reading this trilogy. I expect much of the same and won't particular enjoy reading it, but I am curious as to some of the opinions that the author has towards the Arthurian legend and how he will explain certain problems or occurrences.

A well-written book I just could not put the book down. Ending up not riding horses but driving around in Land Rovers.
